Scalable balanced batch rekeying for secure group communication
نویسندگان
چکیده
Secure group communication is important for applications such as pay-per-view. Other authors have proposed the key tree approach to distribute a shared group key in a way such that the rekeying cost scales linearly with the logarithm of the group size for a join or depart request. The efficiency of the key tree approach depends critically on whether the key tree remains balanced. Periodic rebalancing can be used to balance the key tree whenever it becomes unbalanced but this adds extra costs to the network. In this paper, we present two Merging Algorithms suitable for batch join events. As the multicast session consists of other events as well, we then show how we can extend our algorithms into existing work to minimise the maximum difference in height without adding extra network costs. Simulation results show our Merging Algorithms not only balance the key tree but their rekeying costs are lower compared to existing algorithms. a 2006 Elsevier Ltd. All rights reserved.

Optimizing batch Rekeying interval for Secure Group Communication based on Queuing Model
Rapid growth of Internet spawns many group oriented multicast applications like Internet pay TV, news dissemination and stock quote system. The fortes of these applications are the support of dynamic, scalable group membership and group members are geographically divergent. As members of the group move in and out, an imperative cryptographic rekeying model should be applied to preserve the conf...

متن کاملTernary Tree Based Group Key Agreement for Cognitive Radio MANETs
This paper presents an efficient contributory group key agreement protocol for secure communication between the lightweight small devices in cognitive radio mobile ad hoc networks. A Ternary tree based Group ECDH.2 (TGECDH.2) protocol that uses a batch rekeying algorithm during membership change is proposed in this paper. This ternary tree is a balanced key tree in which appropriate insertion p...
متن کاملModeling and analysis of intrusion detection integrated with batch rekeying for dynamic group communication systems in mobile ad hoc networks
We investigate performance characteristics of secure group communication systems (GCSs) in mobile ad hoc networks that employ intrusion detection techniques for dealing with insider attacks tightly coupled with rekeying techniques for dealing with outsider attacks. The objective is to identify optimal settings including the best intrusion detection interval and the best batch rekey interval und...
متن کاملTowards scalable key management for secure multicast communication
Secure multicast communication allows a sender to deliver encrypted messages to a group of authorized receivers. A practical approach is that the sender uses a common key shared by the authorized receivers to encrypt the transmitted messages. The common key must be renewed to ensure forward/backward secrecy when group members leave/join the group, called the rekeying process. Thus, the rekeying...
